Visitors register books, 1910- .

This series consists of bound volumes used by the dept. and its divisions to record patron activity. The volumes were created by several divisions including the Military, Civil Archives, and Maps and Manuscripts Divisions until they were abolished in 1983. Currently there are registers in the Reference Division and the receiptionist's office. The volumes record the name of the visitor and hometown. The information was writtem into the volume by the patron. One of the registers, which comprises approximately forty volumes, also records the particular subject the patron was researching.
